Behind Gem Hats

Caroline Hafele is the milliner (hat maker) and designer behind Gem Hats. Her love of hats began while working for a fashion startup in Mexico City 2020. She was inspired by the local hat culture and began designing hats with upcycled fabrics found while exploring the city.

Caroline launched Gem Hats in Denver, Colorado in 2021. After two years of making hats as a side gig, she decided to turn her love of hats full-time. The first Gem Hats storefront & hat bar opened in October 2023 in LoHi, one of Denver's most vibrant neighborhoods.

All designs are uniquely made with vintage materials and fabrics. Each Gem tells a story and celebrates the creatives of the world. Visit the studio to shop ready-to-wear hats, design your own custom hat or just to stop in to learn more about our process!

No matter what type of maker you are, your workspace is your happy place. It is where your crazy ideas come to life, where you learn from trial and error, and where your work evolves overtime.

Last week, Caroline Johnson from Caroline Grace Photography visited the Gem Hats studio to photograph the hat-making process. Her work is incredible and I couldn't be more excited to share it with you! For more photos of the shoot, check out her blog post here.

Thank you Caroline for capturing the magic of the Gem Hats workspace! You are a gem!
